Recorded in 1965, I think this is the best ever recording of "Fly Me to the Moon." Oh, not to take anything away from Frank Sinatra and his incredible '64 jazz-infused Quincy Jones arranged and conducted version with Count Basie and the Basie Orchestra, but the only way this tender Tony Bennett rendition could possibly be better would be to drop the needlessly added dubbed chorus and synthesized orchestration. Still, Mr. Bennett's gentle phrasing definitely--and definitively--touch the heart... (As long as my heart beats, she will be all I long for, all I worship--and adore. In other words, I never will love again...) Poets often use many words to say a simple thing It takes thought and time and rhyme to make poem sing With music and words I've been playing For you I have written a song To be sure that you'll know what I'm saying I'll translate as I go along Fly me to moon And let play among the stars Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars In other words, hold my hand In other words, darling kiss me Fill my heart with song And let me sing forevermore You are all I long for, all I worship, and adore In other words, please be true In other words, I love you...
