Recorded in early 1951, Sinatra's evolving artistry and vocal command are beautifully showcased on this tender song. But his recording of "Love Me" is sadly ironic. At the time, there wasn't much love for Sinatra. A large portion of his audience had already turned away from him. Within a year he lost his Columbia recording contract as well as his radio, TV and movie deals. He also lost his voice. Seriously, he actually was unable to sing. By his own admission he thought his career over. His marriage definitely was. Sinatra's very public affair with Ava Gardner and his obsessive love for her was all-consuming and nearly destroyed him. Yet if it weren't for Gardner there would not be the many magnificent lost love, grief-etched recordings only a damaged Sinatra could make. How's that for irony... I'm so in love with you, please love me Whatever else you do, just love me Go your way and dance and play Till dawn breaks though If you'll just call up and say "I love you, just you" You're all that I desire Love me I'd die if you should tire of me Love me I'll be kind and I won't mind if you're not near If you'll only love me, dear...
