President Rajapakse orders the LTTE to release Tamil civilians in their clutches if they care for Tamil people. The President had a discussion with Tamil political parties on the present situation in the North at Temple Trees yesterday. The President said the terrorists were using Tamil civilians as human guards although the troops were exercising restraint in their humanitarian operations. The LTTE had not taken action to protect the Tamil civilians. The Tamil National Alliance was on several occasions invited to broach the Northern situation. However they did not participate due to LTTE pressure. The President reminded that the Government took action to meet all requirements of the civilians in the grip of the LTTE, including food and medicine, sans a dearth. The terrorists had used a major part of the essentials supplied to the civilians for their benefit and build bunkers. He underscored that food will be not used as a weapon to defeat a war. Tamil Party representatives said there was food sufficient for about three months in these areas. They said the treatment meted out to the civilians by the Security Forces has earned praise from the escaping civilians. The All Ceylon Muslim Congress, the Ceylon Democratic Unity Alliance, EPDP, the National Congress, NUA, the EPRLF Pathmanabha Faction, SLMC, TMVP, the Up-Country Peoples Front, the Democratic Peoples Front, TULF and PLOTE were represented at the discussion. Prime Minsiter Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and several Parliamentarians were present.
