We visited Galveston on Valentines Day 2009. Here is what we saw of damage from Hurricane Ike, which came through on 9/13/08, five months prior to our visit. Note the sad owner planting grass under his house that he purchased in August, 2008. Lots of questions about what is the right thing for whom to do on our barrier islands (And New Orleans, for that matter.) where the weather and the sea always have their way.
