Anime DVD rankings in Japan for early May: Clannad After Story v6, Training with Hanako, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Guren-hen, Naruto Shippūden: Kizuna the Movie, Gundam 00 Second Season #3, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Volume 09, Macross Frontier #9, Kuroshitsuji, Hetalia - Axis Powers, and re-issues of a bunch of Studio Ghibli movies. Anime TV show ratings in Japan: Sazae-san, Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, One Piece, Chibi Maruko-chan, Dragon Ball Kai, Fresh Precure!, Detective Conan, Pokemon: Daimond and Pearl, and Inazuma Eleven. Japanese anime movie rankings: Detective Conan: The Raven Chaser, is still at #1. Now totals US$20M. Takashi Miike's Crows Zero II is now at #5, taking in a total of $22M so far. Crayon Shin-Chan: Roar! is at #6, totaling $5.9M Drop, the coming-of-age autobiography, fell off the top 10 list, having brought in $18M. 4Kids announced during a recent conference call a 1st-quarter net loss of $2 million dollars for 2009. Funimation's Anime video-on-demand service, which has been available on Comcast in certain areas, is now available on Comcast nationwide. They already offer Ouran, Aquarion, Mushi-Shi, Devil May Cry, XXXHolic, and Tsubasa, plus many others. Apparently they shuffle anime in and out every month. This summer they'll be bringing in Heroic Age, Romeo x Juliet, Murder Princess, and Honey and Clover (and others). Want an advance look at Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete? You've got Australia's Arclight Films, Canada's Wizzfilms, the Infotainment China Media Company, and the United Kingdom's Latec International. AIC had already signed a basic agreement with Cubix International in Singapore, which will still be executive producing. The group plans to consult with Shinji Aramaki and Kenichi Sonoda to get the feel of the world right. They plan for a budget of $30M (?!?), and they've already got 70% of the money. The second Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel has a street date in the U.S.! It's...October. So, that's 6 months between releases.
