Tonight is the Faith Covenant Church Endurance Burnsville 5K race at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 12921 Nicollet Avenue in Burnsville. For more information call 952-200-0251. Last night the Burnsville City Council approved an amendment to a Planned Unit Development to demolish the existing McDonald's restaurant at 14200 Grand Avenue South and build a new one in its place with conditions. The site is northeast of the intersection of County Road 42 and Interstate 35W. The conditions included one councilmember Charlie Crichton suggested to specify that most southern eight parking stalls be designated for employees so closer stalls could be for patrons. A public hearing for the McDonald's rebuilding was June 8 at a Planning Commission meeting. The Commission was concerned with fewer parking spaces proposed for the new site, but was supportive of the plan, which also includes eliminating an outdoor play area in lieu of putting it inside. The new site was proposed to take care of the overflow of waiting traffic that backs up during peak business times from the drive-thru lane. Also last night Burnsville resident Cliff Volkmann spoke during citizen comments. He expressed concerns and questions on a number of issues including the Heart of the City, Nicollet Commons Park, the Mediterranean Cruise Cafe, jobs, low-income or affordable housing, the school system in Burnsville and the Mayor. Councilmember Dan Gustafson told Volkmann his time was up after about six minutes. Gustafson was conducting the meeting in Mayor Elizabeth Kautz's place as she was gone for a conference. For the full article go to mnsun.com. Weather: Tonight: mostly cloudy, 70 percent chance of rain, storms likely after midnight, lows around 65. Tomorrow: mostly cloudy, 60 percent chance of rain, storms likely in the morning with a chance in the afternoon too, highs around 80. Cold and rain Saturday morning, June 6 did not stop families from trekking out to catch fish at Bush Lake in Bloomington. The Bloomington Optimists Club Kids Fishing Fair enjoyed a large turnout. Kids fished to win 1 of 4 prizes for the biggest fish. All the children were required to bring a rod and reel, but live bait of all kinds were provided. There were even fishing demonstrations such as how to bait a hook and cast a reel. Sun Newspapers Intern MacKenzie Collins reports.
