Franz Liszt, from Années de Pèlerinage, Troisième Année: Les Jeux d'Eaux à la Villa d'Este, composed in 1877. An evocation of the fountains and the noise of waters in the lovely garden of Villa d'Este, situated at Tivoli near Rome, Italy. This recording of Claudio Arrau (1903-1991) from 1928 is in my opinion still unsurpassed. Just imagine that the surface noise from the recording is pattering water...
