I am a singer/songwriter from rural Virginia and I write under the name Voice of a Child. This is one of the tracks off my album "Calling Off the Future," released in September, 2008 Lyrics: I'm the tunnel; he's the light I'll be your dark journey to a fitting paradise Can you stay up with me? If you want happiness, don't follow me I'll break your fall and put it back together in a more painful way And this can't last I'll gladly display your future with the frame of my past When your love began to fade I said it was a lie from hell Now I'm horrified to say, Hell was telling me the truth Now, don't be so vain There was a time you wanted me You don't love me right now Right now will never come again He's the tunnel, I'm the light I'll be your bright ending That fitting paradise That you'll never find. Description: Many of the relationships in our lives in which we put so much faith turn into something merely transitional. Im the tunnel, hes the light represents me as the painful transition into a better day. Before we find that one special someone many of us go through hell to get there. There seems to consistently be that dark relationship that we endure before true beauty comes along. Through my low self-esteem in the past, I always placed myself in the position to be the desert journey into paradise, (the crumb prior to dinner). I never placed my worth in the way that I diligently tried to uphold the relationship, but rather, in my partners dim outlook on my existence. Chorus: Happiness lies through me frame of my past. (Spoken to a lover) The trials and tribulations that you shall endure by being connected to my life will ultimately lead you to your true destiny (your knight in shining armor). I will be there to catch you when you fall, but I will pick up the pieces and paint a portrait more painful than your fall itself. Sweetie, you will never forget that I was there to save you when you failed miserably. I have great visions for your future, but they will be meticulously molded and displayed by my brutally painful experiences in the past. Verse 1: When your love began to fade When something is going horribly wrong, it is easy to blame it on a supernatural disastrous force working against us. The paralyzing fear of loneliness causes us to shift the blame onto anyone, or anything other than ourselves. Hell represents anything that comes as a negative shock or is painful to our pride, hence the line, Hell was telling me the truth. Verse 2: Now dont be so vain The strangest thing about relationships is the almost immediate transition between wanting to start a family together and hating each other. I marvel at the unprecedented fallout that occurs when two people go their separate ways. Are the outbursts of hostility related to being mistreated OR are they symptoms of humiliation for not knowing better? Who knows? The only method effective in trying to get things resolved through the barrage of blame is the truth, no matter how troubling The last chorus of the song puts the shoe on the other foot. I got over my self-esteem, became the man I needed to be and decided that I would never go through such humiliation and ridicule in a relationship again. Many times I was left alone for someone who looked better on the surface. Once the truth came out, the ones who left begged for things to go back the way they were. The previous statement may seem arrogant and I want to make it clear that I have treated women with blatant disrespect in the past, but I made the transition from being a dark tunnel to being a light.
