"So, where are we going?" I asked him, while we walked with his arm around me. "Well, I asked what Kevin recomended and he threw us out of the car. So, I'm kind of at a loss.." he said. I was expecting his answer to actually mean something, but I'm starting to realize that Joe is a goofball. I turned my head to him and laughed lightly. "I still need to get to know the town." he added. "There's basically nothing to do here. When people think of California, they think of exciting beaches and celebrities. I see a beach, but celebrities and excitement? There's pretty much none of that." I explained. "That's going to change." he said. "Why?" I asked him, curiously. "I'm going to be famous one day. Soon." he said confidently. "Oh really?" I asked him, still a bit curious. "Yep. One day, you'll see." he said. "Is that a promise?" I asked. "You better believe it.." he said to me with a smile, and I laughed a little. We walked around for a little while longer, and stopped at a pizza shop and ate a couple slices. We walked another block or so, and then we came across an arcade. Joe glanced over at me, as if to ask if I wanted to go inside. I answered him by running in and going to the token machine. I took a five dollar bill out of my pocket and went to put it into the machine, but then I felt his hand on top of mine. I looked up at him with raised eyebrows, and our faces inches apart. He lightly pushed my hand down, and kept holding onto it. "The gentleman always pays for the lady." he said. I was getting to know him better and better, and I could tell he was teasing. But, I was smart and I wasn't going to let him win. "Really? I didn't realize.." I said to him, playing along. He took his hand away from mine and went to insert a ten dollar bill, but just before he reached the slot I stuck my money in front of his and smiled teasingly at him while my money was being exchanged into tokens. I looked down, reached for the tokens, picked them up and walked over to a game. A couple minutes later he was next to me and we played the most random games, and after about an hour the place started to clear out. Joe was still playing a game, so I ran over and yanked him by the arm. I pulled him all the way out, laughing, and locked my arm with his as we started walking. I hated locking arms with people, it was so corny. But Joe was different, he made me want to be different. "So, what now?" he asked, interrupting my thoughts. We were a couple blocks from our houses, and I was just about to suggest something, but then I saw Kevin sitting on the sea wall. I tapped Joe's arm and pointed to him. "There's your brother." I said. "Aw, sweet!" he said, obviously excited about something. "What are you thinking?" I asked him. He took my hand and we snuck onto the bach to a nearby dock. We knelt down next to each other about 10 feet away from Kevin and watched. After a couple minutes, a girl walked up and sat next to him. His whole face lit up when he noticed her, and then he reached down in the sand and pulled out a hidden bouqet of flowers and handed them to her with a smile. "Wow, he's cheap.." Joe whispered. "Really? I think it's cute." I whispered back, teasing him. He didn't respond because he was still watching them. I turned around just as Kevin's lips reached hers. I looked down and cleared my throat nervously while Joe and I knelt in silence. I looked up and his face started moving closer to mine. His eyes stayed locked with mine, and I couldn't help but to be reminded of Brian. I kept looking in Joe's eyes as I tried to fight the thoughts away. His face was just an inch away from mine and I closed my eyes, but the moment I lost sight of him, I lost sight of myself as well. [authors note: how cheesey is that? :)] I stood up and looked away, trying not to let myself fall apart in front of him. He stood up and put his warm hand on my arm. "What's wrong?" he asked with a concerned expression. I closed my eyes again and told myself not to break down. "I have to go." I said softly. Joe kept hold of my arm. "Did I do something wrong?" he asked, trying to make eye contact with me. "No, I just really have to go." I said. He opened his mouth to say something, but I turned and walked away. He's a great guy, but I just don't think I'm ready. next chapter will be up later. i have a good idearrr for Amanda/Joe encounter ahaha, so i just can't resist. :)
