Here we go starting the Sonic portion. What I was saying was how this starts right after Knuckles sent Sonic and Tails to the bottom of Lava Reef as the attempted to climb towards the Death Egg, which was still mostly underground. Knuckles knows Robotnik is up to something, but isn't sure what, and he is still leery about Sonic and Tails. Thanks to the little boulder thing, the Death Egg has enough time to start its rise into space as Knuckles fights Sonic. Robotnik then steals the Master Emerald to power his machines and Knuckles finally understands, deciding to help Sonic. My belief is that Knuckles went ahead from having an easier time getting around after Sandopolis, sent Sonic falling, dealt w/ the Robotnik robo-clone and Metal Sonic, and brought the Master Emerald back by the time Sonic and Tails made the long trek BACK to Hidden Palace Zone. Then they see each other and Knuckles fights them.
