Even though this was the last new NBC broadcast episode of "Valerie", this was actually the 18th filmed episode of the series. For some unknown reason, NBC shelved and didn't air it until after 2 weeks of reruns at the end of the season. Its almost like someone at the network realized "Hey, we forgot this one!" and aired one last new episode of the 1986-1987 season. The last actual filmed episode of "Valerie" (that made it to the airwaves) was "Oedipus Wrecks", which aired 5 weeks prior to this episode. In this episode, Valerie is less than thrilled with another visit from Michael's war buddy Skip Franklin who brings a surprise, his new bride, Darlene. Later, a fight ensues when Skip drops the news that he's planning on getting a job in Chicago which is a total surprise to Darlene. In what is possibly my favorite scene out of the entire "Valerie" run, Val finally lets Uncle Skip have it. Something fun to note, Arlene Golonka and Valerie Harper were roommates in New York in the 1960s. Arlene was then appearing in the Second City improvisational troupe. She introduced Valerie to Second City, and to her first husband, Richard Schaal. In 1970, when Valerie landed her first major television role as Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore show, she was able to get both Arlene and then husband Richard regular guest star spots on the series.
