http://www.clmnews.com/ In breaking news today, NFL QB Brett Farve asked for his unconditional release from Green Bay Packers. The request comes after weeks of speculation about the future of the 38 Year Old QB. It's been widely reported that Farve who retired in March sent text messages to Packers GM Ted Thompson expressing an interests in returning to the NFL. The Farve comeback buzz was ratcheted up last week when Packer's Corner Back Al Harris told ESPN's NFL Live that Brett has the Itch. That coupled with numerous statements made by Farve's friends and associates made it almost inevitable that Farve would ask to return. The surprise to most following this story is that Brett is asking to be released to pursue a contract outside of green bay in 08. Sources close to the situation say that Brett was prompted to officially send the Packers a letter demanding his release after his request to return to Green Bay was met with indifference and a chilled reception from management. The Packers are now left with very few options in dealing with the situation. Brett has 2 years remaining on his contract with an option for a third that is set to pay Farve $12 in 2008 alone. This makes his contract hard if not impossible to trade when pitted against the NFL's Hard Salary Cap. The Packers will likely be forced to release their legendary QB, thus opening themselves up to seeing Brett in a Chicago Bears uniform. Another possible landing place for Farve would be title ready division rival the Minnesota Vikings. A cruel irony might arise if Farve chooses to play for the Vikings this season. The Vikings open their season at Lambough field for a Monday night game in which the Packers had planned to retire Farve's jersey at half time. http://www.clmnews.com/
