Lyrics follow the comment. Henry Gross produced a single in 1976, "Shannon." Guest vocalists included Ricky Fataar. NOTE: Henry states in his bio that Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys did NOT perform on Shannon. "Its going to be rough from day one, because she knows shes gorgeous". Shannon came into Henrys life via his marriage in the mid-70s, about the same time he was opening tours for the Beach Boys. Gross and Carl Wilson bonded over Irish Setters, as Wilsons had recently been killed by a car. Back home in New York, with Shannon nearby, Gross thought about Carl and the song just kind of wrote itself. I knew the second I wrote it there was something special about it, he says. The single went gold and became a worldwide hit, reaching #6 on the USA charts in 1976. At age 18, Henry was a founding member of the world famous rock 'n' roll revival group Sha Na Na, playing guitar & wearing on-stage the "greaser" clothes he wore in high school. The group's popularity took a giant step after legendary performances at the Fillmore auditoriums in New York and San Francisco and the Woodstock Festival. A listener had requested "Shannon" as a "Long Distance Dedication" (a regular feature of the show) to his own recently-deceased dog.
