At this event, the Beatmania Top Ranking Finals, a competition between amusement arcades throughout Japan, were held to determine the top ranking Beatmania player. The competition included high level players who represented each of the amusement arcades. Beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS, the newest game in the Beatmania series, was released by Konami in November 2008 to amusement arcades throughout Japan where it is already being played. The game features a total of 520 songs, which is significantly more than the previous version.
