http://www.centenarycollege.edu/summerscholars/academictracks/creativewriting.html Our writing workshops are perfect for aspiring writers of all ages and skill levels. Students work in small, intensive classes. Ideas exchange; discussions abound. There are no pre-requisites -- just a love of writing and the desire to participate and grow in the workshop setting.. Week 1 Week 1: Mechanics of Writing Master grammatical conventions: verb forms, tense, pronoun agreement, punctuation, and other aspects of quality writing. We focus on the skills students need now and in their future to communicate effectively and confidently as they advance through high school and into college. Week 2 Week 2: Writing for the Internet Learn the styles and techniques of writing for a networked, world-wide audience. We work on Internet journalism, professional blogging, and other areas of social computing. We examine the responsibilities and protocols for Internet writing, as well as the tools and techniques to do so. Week 3 Week 3: Fiction I: Style and Form Learn how to turn an original idea into a piece of writing and how to bring imagination and structure to a story. Work on outline, plot, setting, character development, word choice, revision, and editing. This is designed for writers who want to improve their written voice, and polish their storytelling skills. Week 4 Week 4: Fiction II: "Tell Me a Story" Delve into your imagination in one of our most creative writing classes. Learn not only how to write a great story, but how to tell a great story. Through the study of masterworks and creation of your own stories, our class delves more deeply into the rich world of storytelling -- imagination, writing and speaking.
