Directed by Charles Walters. With Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Eddie Bracken, Gloria DeHaven, Marjorie Main, Phil Silvers, Ray Collins, Nita Bieber, Carleton Carpenter and others ...Summer Stock (known as If You Feel Like Singing) is a musical made in 1950. A small-town farmer, down on her luck, finds her homestead invaded by a theatrical troupe invited to stay by her ne'er-do-well sister.Judy Garland and Gene Kelly make a perfect team, and Marjorie Main could not be funnier--her wake-up call is particularly memorable. Gloria DeHaven is beautiful and gets to perform a nice little number with Hans Conried. This film, a classic in many respects, is a rather sad goodbye to that sad but talented woman who thrilled us all throughout the 40s.This is Judy's Scwannlied, and it's a sad one at that. I remember seeing this film as a kid with my eyes full of tears as I watched that wonderful, magical lady dance her last dance for MGM.
