In India, health care is officially government financed and government run. However, actually accessing publicly provided health care is another matter. There is a severe lack of funding by the government. People, including the poor, often have to pay out of pocket and quite a lot to get any access to health care. India spends $109 annually per person (vs. $7,290 in the U.S.). India spends 4.9% of GDP (vs. 16% of GDP in the U.S.) on health care. August 27, 2009 broadcast.
