Parts of this introduction were read by Orson Welles and Richard Burton as the start of theatrical productions and films. Here it is in its entirety. Be assured that I am not suffering the delusion that I can read as well as such legendary professionals as Welles or Burton: I'm just a guy with a cheap mike who chooses a piece to read most days on YouTube. Here's Orson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFtI-h_tXB4&feature=related and here's Richard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFfZFvvuXWc&NR=1 Written in 1897, there is an obvious parallel with what is happening in the world right now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_of_the_Worlds There was an apparent anti-war statement in the recent film by Steven Speilberg, showing a vision of a technically superior power cruelly subduing a less advanced one in order to take possession of its resources. You have to believe this is the truth - unless, of course, you're one of those who believes that we're actually benefactors bringing democracy to underprivileged nations. Or, perhaps, that all-out-war on a nation is a reasonable response to the actions of a few madmen who actually belonged to another nation.
