President Rajapaksa has announced a salary increase for members of the Security Forces with immediate effect. The President said he was granting the salary increase to the Security Forces as a tribute to the priceless sacrifices made by them on behalf of the country. The President revealed this while addressing officers of the Brigades in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi who made a vital contribution to the Wanni humanitarian operations. Further, addressing the gathering at the Mulankaaweli 651st Brigade Headquarters this morning, the President said that they placed confidence in the war heroes and today that confidence has been established. They had to convey the message of their confidence in their commitment. The war heroes achieved a difficult task. They did not discuss about their meals. They did not query about their welfare. Their main target was to eliminate terrorism. The target had been achieved. The President noted that the Government was indebted to them. When the working class was talking about their rights, the war heroes did not do so. Salary increases were effected from January and as the Minister of Finance and President, he increased the salaries of the war heroes with effect from today. The President underscored that there is no other administration than his Government which placed trust in the courage, heroism and dedication of the war heroes. He recalled that this confidence gave them an opportunity to battle courageously in the battle zone as genuine heroes.
