An aggressive defendant was taken down with a taser gun yesterday, after he moved as if to attack the prosecutor. Percy Phillips, 45, was found guilty of assault and robbery after the death of a homeless man in 2002 and was appearing in Jefferson Circuit Court, Kentucky, accused of threatening a police officer who testified against him in that case. Phillips became increasingly agitated during the competency hearing, before suddenly lunging at prosecutor John Balliet and knocking over the table in front of him. A sheriff's deputy then grabbed Phillips and restrained him, while another yelled 'Taser!' and used the stun gun on him. The electric charge felled Phillips, but he was able to exit the court unaided. His defence lawyer, Jay Lambert, said that he thought the situation had been handled appropriately, and the local police authority is now planning to conduct an internal investigation into the incident. dailymail.co.uk
