Recorded in September 1952, this incredibly moving rendition of "Why Try to Change Me Know?" was Sinatra's final recording for Columbia Records. His world was a wreck at the time. So was he. Still, his performance, with its deep layers of emotion and vocal coloring, is extraordinarily stunning. You can actually feel his grief and sadness if you closely listen... (This song tears my already broken heart: I will love her till the moon is upside down. That now cruel and tormenting moon I used to wish upon to bring me her. Of all the wishes to grant...) Note: Sinatra would again record the song less than 7-years later for his "No One Cares" album. It's difficult to choose a favorite. The simple beauty in this version's orchestration leaves Sinatra's voice and emotions more exposed; however, his matured artistry with the lush arrangement of the later recording adds a greater sense of sadness and despair. You decide: each is posted. I'm sentimental, so I walk in the rain I've got some habits even I can't explain Could start for the corner, turn up in Spain But why try to change me now? I sit and daydream, I've got daydreams galore Cigarette ashes, there they go on the floor I'll go away weekends, leave my keys in the door But why try to change me now? Why can't I be more conventional? People talk, people stare, so I try But that's not for me, 'cause I can't see My kind of crazy world go passing me by So let people wonder, let 'em laugh, let 'em frown You know I'll love you till the moon's upside down Don't you remember I was always your clown? Why try to change me now?
