Hymn from William Cowper - 1772 The words to this are so incredibly powerful and after hearing the first and second verses quoted once I decided I wanted to try to put it to my own music. Initially all I could find for this song was midi files so I just put together what I thought made sense. After making this though I found a really great version here on youtube that I suggest checking out. Hope you like it! God Bless! P.S. The lyrics I printed didn't have the 6th verse. Oops. Chords: Esus2 - 079900 ??? - 079800 C#m - 046600 A - x02200 E - 022100 B - 024400 C#m - 046600 A - x02200 Basically the same four chords played in two positions (for chorus and verse). Lyrics- There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel's veins And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains! The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more E'er since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing Thy power to save When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave Lies silent in the grave, lies silent in the grave When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave. Lord, I believe Thou hast prepared, unworthy though I be For me a blood bought free reward, a golden harp for me! 'Tis strung and tuned for endless years, and formed by power divine To sound in God the Father's ears no other name but Thine —William Cowper This is a picture of how amazing and powerful Jesus' blood is and what he did for us through death on the cross- saving us from our sins once and for all. It is not suggesting the need to recreate\repeat what Jesus has done, but rather it is uses imagery to show how far reaching and powerful that single act was, and continues to be for our salvation. Sometimes I think we can get complacent about this fact and need something a bit 'brow raising' to remind us -- in this case a 230 year old hymn
