Wipro hires very aggressively from both the market and college campuses, but finding the right talent proves a difficult task. Although India is known for its abundant talent pool, almost 85% of the graduates who come out of college are non-engineering graduates. Wipro saw this pool as an untapped resource for future employees. Wipro set up a program that allows students to work on live projects during the week, then take classes on the weekends. At the end of four years, they come out with an MS in engineering from one of the leading engineering colleges in the country. Leaders at Wipro find that colleges benefit because they can guarantee job placement after the program, and Wipro benefits by getting a fresh supply of much need employees. Wipro has also seen an increase in retention rates for employees who have gone through the program. 4,000 people have now completed the program, which started with twenty-five people.
