Many countries have elected to close borders to protect their populations from viruses, security threats, and other external dangers. An example recently has been the brief closure of the Mexican border when the H1N1, or Swine Flu virus, was realized to have originated from a small Mexican town. The virus spread quicker than authorities anticipated and led the Mexican government to close their borders, especially to the United States. This tactic was not as well-received in the United States, however, because they were hesitant to the idea of border closure due to trade decimation.
