The Mermoz was build as a 3 class liner for the route France to West-Africa in 1957. In 1972 it was rebuild and become a de lux cruise ship for the frech upmarket. The ship could carry 600 passangers. It sailed for many years in Caribbean and Asia and up to north europe. Mermoz was well known for the Cultural music cruises where some of the famous musicians of the world in the 70's and 80's. Mermoz was the first cruise liner that was rebuild with a single seating dinning rooms and several lounges and bars. Cartier and Dior and Chanel had shops onboard and it was at every sailing up to 48000 bottles of wine. The large cruise ships to day who carry 4 times more passangers dont have so much wine onboard. The crew that worked onborad Mermoz was special trained from the best hotels in France. The Cabins onboard was small but you had everything you need. They was all in diffrent colours and furnishing. It was sold to Louis cruise line and renamed Serenade but it was headed for Alang India to be breaken up. Mermoz had a large very eclusive art collection onboard and this collection are today in the new cruise ship Blue de France.
