A short explanation of ECE Senior Design Team Macrosoft's mass-transit arrival monitoring system, T-Nav. Team Members: Abin Ajayakumar, Moses Chen, Nael Musleh, Christopher Ogorzalek, Patrick Raspante The MBTA is one of the most comprehensive and one of the most complicated public transportation systems in America. The green B subway line has the most unpredictable arrival times due to many traffic lights, frequent station stops and a high passenger volume. According to passengers who use the majority of the system, the B line is deemed the most inconvenient because the passengers have no information on arrival times. The MBTA has no plans of addressing this problem. The T-NAV prototype will provide MBTA passengers with accurate, easily accessible online arrival information about the subway B line cars between all its stops, in both directions. The T-NAV prototype will utilize a community of users with Java compatible GPS enabled cell phones who use the B line to provide the rest of the community with accurate train arrival times. The system can be scaled to the entire Boston subway system. It will in addition provide a virtual map interface to plot trips for users based on train location data and a departure and arrival addresses.
