Perhaps influenced by the success of rival TV's(Nihon TV) influential "Taiyo Ni Hoero" detective series, TBS decided to produce a more straight forward, serious police procedural crime drama this time around and thus the "hardboiled" G-Men '75 series was born. The "G-Men" title is probably in reference to the American series "The Untouchables" and did not indicate that these detectives were part of any broad National Japanese strikeforce. The '75 referenced the year in which the show debuted. In keeping with the "Untouchables" influence, great character actor Tamba Tetsuro wore a fedora hat and trench coat like Robert Stack's Eliot Ness character (although Tamba sported a similar look in the Keyhunter, Eyeful and Birdie series as well). A number of familiar faces from other Toei movies and TV series appeared during the series run including action star Kurata Yasuaki, Tokusatsu star Miyauchi Hiroshi, Chiba Hiroshi (not related to Shinichi) and Ibuki Go as well as distinguished character actors like Wakabayashi Go, Natsuki Yosuke, Tanimura Masahiko. Aside from Tamba, Fujiki Yu was the only other actor who appeared in all of the previous TBS detective drama series. Many may also recognize "Iron Chef" chairman Kaga Takeshi (complete with 70s afro) in one of his first TV appearances. While "G-Men '75" borrowed a lot of elements from its competition (focus on individual police detectives, the motivations of criminals and strong socially relevant and dramatic storylines) one thing that it did do that was unique at the time was introduce interesting and strong female police detective characters. Beautiful and exotic actresses were introduced like singers Fujita Mihoko and Natsuki Mari, Eurasians like Maria Mori and Sarah and also former "Play Girl" star Han Bunjaku. Unlike "Play Girl" these women detectives weren't just pretty faces but had interesting background stories and were every bit as skilled and capable as their male teammates. What also seperated "G-Men '75" from "Taiyo Ni Hoero" was in its frequent use of exotic locales in some of its stories. Several storylines had the team go to Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and locations in Europe to resolve cases or track down escaping convicts (not sure if they also traveled to the US). These cases were multi-episode affairs and almost resembled mini-movies. After a remarkable run of 355 episodes, the series ended in 1982. A sequel soon followed called naturally "G-Men '82" but did not last very long. The title sequence was very memorable and neat I always thought. Cast: Tanba Tetsuro (Kuroki - Keishi/Superintendent) Wakabayashi Go (Tachibana - Keibu/Inspector) Harada Daijiro (Sekiya - Keibuho/Assistant Inspector) Natsuki Mari (Tsugawa Keiko - Keibuho/Assistant Inspector) Kurata Yasuaki (Sono - Keiji/Detective) Okamoto Fujita (Tsukasa - Keiji/Detective) Ibuki Go (Nakaya - Keiji/Detective) Fujiki Yu (Yamada - Keiji/Detective) Yuki Toshihiko (Murai - Keiji/Detective) Miyauchi Hiroshi (Shimatani - Keiji/Detective) Kaga Takeshi (Kusaka - Keiji/Detective) Chiba Hiroshi (Taguchi - Keiji/Detective) Tamura Masahiro (Furuta - Keiji/Detective) Fujikawa Kiyohiko (Kazama - Keiji/Detective) Fujita Mihoko (Kyo Keiko - Keiji/Detective) Maria Elizabeth Mori (Hayami Ryoko - Keiji/Detective) Sarah V. Lowell (Mariko Tetsuoka - Keiji/Detective) Han Bunjaku (Kagawa Yoko - Keiji/Detective) Natsuki Yosuke (Kotagiri - Keishi/Superintendent) Kawazu Yosuke (Nagumo - Keishi/Superintendent) Kanami Kyoko (Tsumura Saeko - Keibuho/Assistant Inspector) 1975/5/24~1982/4/3放送 全355話 TBS系 毎週土曜日 21:00~21:54放送 スタッフ プロデューサ: 近藤照男、原 弘男、樋口祐三(TBS) 構成: 深作欣二、佐藤純弥 音楽: 菊池俊輔、ピエール・ポルト、義野裕明 製作: 東映、近藤照男プロダクション、TBS
