Founders Day Ice Cream Social 2009 @St. John's, Detroit

For the last Sunday in July we celebrated Founders Day at St. John's using the original Episcopal Prayer Book (1790) which was in use at St. John's at her founding in 1858. A civil war era band, the Dodworth Saxhorn Band played the prelude and postlude, and for the ice cream social afterwards. Parishioners and friends were invited to dress in hats or Civil War era costumes if they desired. It was a perfect day (if a bit windy) with the temps in the low 70's and low humidity too - a rarity in Detroit at the end of July. Also, this event was scheduled to overlap with the crowds going to the scheduled 1pm Tiger Game, but the Tiger game was rescheduled for 8pm for national television broadcast.
