Dedicated to Mike & Jessy - "the MtV Crew". Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited detours on the very first leg of it's journey from New York to Chicago. The normal route between NYP and CRT was rendered impassable by switch replacement being conducted by Metro North Railroad on their Hudson Line at CP-12, where Amtrak's Empire Connection (the West Side Line from Penn Station) joins the Hudson Line. All Amtrak Service between Albany and New York Penn was affected in some way for the course of the two weekend long project. Trains northbound 63 and 69 were combined as were southbounds 64 and 68. These combined trains, along with the Lake Shore Limited (nos. 48 and 49) all detoured to still serve NYP. All other trains either terminated/originated at CRT (Croton Harmon) with shuttle service provided to GCT by Metro North OR they were rerouted into Grand Central Terminal. See my other videos for more info on the whole project. The "detour" consisted of the following (listed south/east-bound for clarity): 1 - At CP-12 continue south on MN (instead of diverging onto Empire Connection), proceeding to Mott Haven, NY. 2 - At CP-6 (the north end of the Hudson Line side of "MO" cross over to the wye track. 3 - Run north up the HARLEM line to CP-112 (Woodlawn, NY). 4 - Diverge at CP-112 onto the New Haven Line and run to clear at least CP-216 (CP-217 in some instances). 5 - Attach an Amtrak "tow motor", which came up from Sunnyside/Harold/NYP lite, to the rear of the consist and tow the entire thing WEST on the NEC "Main Line Harold to CP-216" and through the EAST River tunnels and into NY Penn Station. ©2008 Josh Weis ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
