From the May 15, 2008, TMU concert in the Brown Theatre. This is the third movement of The Music of Bharam Chak, a work for percussion theatre by Chris Mayer. This video shows the performance of the music recorded live in concert, with the scripted narration and images that were projected on the screen above the ensemble. The lighting on this video is less than optimal to say the least. The staging and costume elements are not clearly seen. The ensemble members are wearing black robes and custom-made masks, depicting the deities and elementals of the Bharam Chak mythos. Court Music features the chorophone, an instrument unique to the royal courts of Bharam Chak. Essentially a living instrument, each singer intones on cue his or her specific pitch, singing an elemental word of power.
